Normally, I couldn't be bothered with religion nor politics. They're both hot topics that usually begins with innocent beliefs and notions that turn into near-murderous arguments that usually leaves an encounter between two people on the lasting ends of negative impressions. However, I do have to admit one thing: when John McCain brought Sarah Palin on as his running mate...well, my interest in politics kinda piqued.
From my vacation in San Francisco to my return to the real world, me and my laptop were usually found on all news sites reading the updates and the poll numbers and the articles and opinions and essays and negative campaigning. At one point, I had to force myself away from the computer as I was as nearly as obsessed as the rest of the nation, if not the world.
I was glued to CNN, ABC, MSNBC, CBS and Huffington Post, in which every news item on the election showcased the Obama camp in good condition and - of course, after Sarah Palin's interviews - the McCain camp in chaos. Then, it happened. Sarah Palin gave an interview over on Fox News and they absolutely made her look somewhat, uh, smart? I shook it all off...leave it to Fox to stir in a little deceit to make the Republicans look good. However, my appetite was just whetted. I needed to see what the so-called pundits and reporters over on Fox were saying daily. And, in all its repulsive glory (even without the equally repulsive elizabeth hassellbeck) Fox News painted a horrifying picture of Barack Obama and a glowingly perfect facade of McCain and Palin. No surprise there, neither were the derogatory and vile comments from the Fox News fans who do not seem to have any notion of checking out more, shall I say, informative and truthful news outlets. I guess that's probably because of either Fox News' tag line, Fair & Balanced (forgive me if i can't finish this because i'm laughing so hard) or do I pull out the punches and call them ignorant idiots that can't seem to think outside of a peanut shell?
Fox News and its following did provide me with a lot to laugh about, but when McCain/Palin turned their campaign into a village mob things started to get scary. Especially when Fox News grabbed hold of those reins and rode that fear tactic way past Karl Rove's desk.
Anyway, once Obama had been elected as our 44th President I watched as the world rejoiced. I've never experienced such a beautiful celebration of good will and common respect. Every news site that I had embraced into my life had words and pictures of the world celebrating the outcome of the election of the U.S. The world was watching us, and we did not disappoint them nor ourselves. I clicked over to Fox News which had one picture under one caption: President Obama. Bill O'Reilly got on his show and said some very negative things about Preident-elect Obama's term and selection of his cabinet. Again, no surprise there.
This morning, still coming down from the information high this past election has bestowed upon me, I decided to check out Fox News just to get a few laughs. And I clicked on a video from Mike Huckabee's show. And my jaw dropped on my desk so hard that I think that I cracked my chinbone (is that what you call it?). Mike Huckabee was giving a speech to his audience about how we should support and embrace and respect President-elect Obama. I'm still in shock and wondering if I should purchase a cattle-prod and urge one of my friends to shock me back into reality. I've seen no further negative comments or opinions about Mr. Obama and his upcoming presidency on Fox News. And its making me wonder: with the Republican party crumbling, just how slick will Fox News be with covering the Obama/Biden term? Also, will they start to go in the direction of hiring real reporters and reporting the actual news? Or will they continue to slime their way into injecting bits and pieces of false information to their daft minions?
